Dinner & Melodrama Train
Saturday 5:30-8:00pm Aug 1, 22, Sept 12
Sit back, relax and enjoy an entertaining melodrama, "Run to the Roundhouse, Nellie," while riding a steam train into Carson River Canyon. After the 45-minute excursion, join us at our new depot for dinner and a drink. On the menu is BBQ tri-tip, chicken, potato salad, baked beans, green salad, Chef's choice dessert, and assorted soft drinks, water, wine and beer for sale. Please arrive at the depot by 4:30pm.

Run to the Roundhouse, Nellie
Presented by Nellie and the Roundhouse Crew, directed by Tami Castillo Shelton. Pioneer Drama Service
Nellie is a good hand with a locomotive, but not much at catching the eye of her true love, rancher Sterling Worth. But Sterling is having his problems because villainous Hugo Swindle has discovered oil on the ranch and is attempting to take over the property. Nellie learns of the truth, but Hugo will stop at nothing to achieve his evil goal! He pursues Nellie, who tries to escape (to the roundhouse, of course), but Hugo captures her, and she is tied to the railroad tracks. Just as a train comes thundering down on helpless Nell, Sterling appears, defeats the villain and saves the day!

Toast of the Canyon Wine Tasting Trains
Special Saturdays at 5:00pm (June 27, July 25, Aug 29, Sept 26, Oct 17, 2015)
Enjoy wine and appetizers as you travel on a 45-minute trip south of the Carson City Depot into the Carson River Canyon. Glimpse a part of the route not seen every day. The track winds past scenic views of the river and the canyon walls. Bring your cameras, as there will be opportunities to photograph the "Iron Horse" as it steams by the passenger cars to re-attach to the train to pull it back up out of the canyon. Listen as the engineer blows the whistle and the echoes bounce off the canyon walls. The Saturday Canyon Trains follow the all day, roundtrip steam train rides from Carson City to Virginia City. At the end of that run, the same train continues south of the Carson City depot into the canyon.

For nearly twenty years the V&T was a major political and economic factor in the growth and development of Western Nevada and Eastern California. During the late 1870s, V&T stockholders divided handsome dividends in excess of $100,000 monthly. Additional financial returns provided the capital for nearly 40 other V&T-affiliated concerns. The 300-mile Carson & Colorado Railroad was built from Mound House, Nevada, to Keeler, California, and was operated by principals of the V&T from 1880 to 1900. V&T dividends funded the establishment of Hawthorne, Nevada, the Hawthorne Water Works, lumbering operations at Lake Tahoe and Southern Nevada, the Columbus Wagon Road to Bodie, a large soda plant at Keeler, and dozens of mining ventures at Aurora, Bodie, Hawthorne, Candelaria, Belleville, Columbus, and Cerro Gordo.
